Eight years of pent-up frustration erupted to the surface at Etihad Stadium on Saturday as Carlton turned on a huge second half to celebrate a hoodoo-busting 61-point victory over the Sydney Swans.

Not only did the 19.10 (124) to 9.9 (63) victory smash the Swans' 12-game winning streak over the Blues that extends back to Round 8 2001, but, more importantly, it consolidated Carlton's position in the top eight.

Held to just four goals in the first-half, the Blues rammed home 15 in the second while holding the Swans goal-less in the final term.

Kade Simpson was busy and productive throughout for the Blues with a team-high 30 disposals while skipper Chris Judd was imperious as ever around the stoppages where he racked up a match-high seven clearances.

Brendan Fevola profited from the good work upfield of not just Judd and Simpson but Ryan Houlihan and Marc Murphy to finish with five goals which lifts his season-tally atop the Coleman Medal charts to 60.

For the Swans, Ryan O'Keefe was outstanding with 33 disposals, two goals and a game-high 14 tackles while Rhyce Shaw and Jarrad McVeigh, who always plays well against Carlton, were among the best.

Sydney won more of the ball in the opening term - 98 disposals to Carlton's 68 - but trailed where it counts thanks to early goals from Fevola, Judd and Matthew Kreuzer who did a fair impression of Eddie Betts by outpacing Ted Richards and sidestepping Luke Ablett before snapping truly with his non-preferred.

The Swans pulled back to within two points at quarter-time however through a pair of majors to White who was too tall and too quick on the lead for Adam Hartlett.

White showed he was as capable below his knees as he is in the air when he led new opponent Paul Bower to the ball, gathered neatly and scored with a snap across his body from deep in the pocket for one of Sydney's three second-quarter goals which earned the visitors a nine-point break at half-time.

Again the Swans dominated possession for the term, 112 disposals to 63, but the balance swung decisively Carlton's way in the third as the Blues struck back with a six-goal burst - three of them from Brad Fisher - that broke the game open.

After Luke Ablett had scored the all-important first for Sydney, Carlton surged from 15 points down to 21 points up in the space of 22 minutes.

Fisher got the Blues going when he ran down Richards from behind and caught the Swans defender red-handed and unawares for a free from point blank range; his second came from outside 50 and the third was a gimme from a holding offence by Ed Barlow.

The Swans managed to strike back with two opportunist majors in the final minute of play - a period when Carlton should have put up the shutters - to give the Blues something to think about at the three-quarter time huddle.

Their response was emphatic - two goals inside the opening minute of the final term to Bryce Gibbs and Andrew Carrazzo - and it was game over.

Everything after that was for show and percentage - Fevola bagged two late, Chris Yarran showed scorching speed to score his only goal for the day and Gibbs capped off a great day for the Blues with the team's 19th after the siren.
