Crows look to Edwards

Crows look to Edwards

29/07/2009 8:12 PM

Veteran Tyson Edwards is in line for a recall against Geelong after performing strongly in Adelaide's main training session at AAMI Stadium on Wednesday.

Edwards has missed the past fortnight with a hamstring strain but completed the mid-week session without incident.

Fellow onballer Bernie Vince said Edwards would be a welcome ally against the Cats.

"He's going to be great to slot back into the midfield for us, a senior guy back in there, we need those sort of strong bodies over the ball," he said.

Andy Otten is still recovering from a corked thigh he received during Showdown and missed the session. But the young defender should be named in the Crows' initial squad on Thursday and given time to recover before the weekend.

And on Tuesday Brodie Martin had an operation to fix his ruptured ACL as he now looks to a comeback in 2010.

Meanwhile Adelaide is hoping its in-form attack can get on top of Geelong's injury-plagued defence when the teams clash at Skilled Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Crows have been performing well with Jason Porplyzia, Kurt Tippett, Scott Stevens and Chris Knights in the forward 50-metres and have been buoyed further with Brett Burton kicking four goals in his second game back from injury.

They'll be taking on a Geelong line-up which'll be missing Matthew Scarlett (abductor) and Harry Taylor (groin). Captain Tom Harley could be recalled after spending time on the sidelines with a knee injury although he's sure to be underdone.

Vince said the injuries worked in his team's favour but added Geelong had the depth to cover most losses.

"I'm sure there's guys itching to get into that side and prove a point to their coach so I'm sure the guys that come in will be just as good as the guys going out," he said.

Taylor Walker has been in blazing form in the SANFL and could strengthen the Crows' attacking advantage even further. But Vince said he wasn't sure whether the young forward would get his opportunity this week.

"He's doing all he can for Norwood, I think in the last three games he's kicked bags of six and then I think he kicked seven last week," he said.

"He's putting his name up there each week but we've got guys in the side that are performing up there at the moment so he's just waiting for his opportunity."
