Port Adelaide veteran Peter Burgoyne could be playing for his career when he takes to the field against Fremantle at Subiaco on Sunday.
The inconsistent Burgoyne has been languishing in the SANFL for the past three weeks and is out of contract at the end of the season.
Coach Mark Williams was pleased with the 31-year-old's approach since being dropped, and has included him in the squad for this week's game, but admitted it was crunch time for the midfielder.
"I thought he trained well. I went and watched him (in the SANFL) and he played pretty well and is some sort of chance of playing," Williams said.
"He's seen the numbers count down as far as how many games are left and is very much aware that he wants to get back and prove to us and the public that he's still got something going."
Forward Brett Ebert has also been recalled to the side after kicking 4.2 for the Port Magpies in the SANFL last week.
Matthew Broadbent is the other inclusion in the club's extended Round 19 squad.
Meanwhile the Power's captain Dom Cassisi is set to wear a helmet against Fremantle after donning the protective headwear at training.
Cassisi suffered a depressed frontal sinus fracture in the Power's game against the Hawks and was in some doubt for the team's upcoming clash.
But the 26-year-old took part in Port's main training session on Thursday and has been given the nod by club doctors and Williams.
Williams said he didn't have any major concerns for his courageous captain.
"The most safe spot in AFL football is your head and I'm sure the umpires, they always push that point."
"If you a play a lot of footy, the amount of times you get hit in the head are very, very rare and unfortunate. You just back those odds and away you go."
Port Adelaide snuck into the top eight last week after beating Hawthorn but is no certainty against a Fremantle.
The Power haven't won two in a row since Rounds 3 and 4 while the Dockers have delivered some strong performances at home.
"We have to worry about them. They matched the Western Bulldogs except for one quarter last week and they've got a young exciting side they are building," Williams said.
"Every game they are playing now is money in the bank for next year I'm sure, so that's how Harvs (Mark Harvey) will be approaching it."
"It will be one down to the wire and we'll have to keep our nerve and keep working at it."
