Essendon's horror Friday night was made even worse on Monday when the AFL match review panel handed down one-game suspensions to defender Dustin Fletcher and midfielder Mark McVeigh.
And the panel compounded West Coast's shock loss to Brisbane by suspending star midfielder Daniel Kerr for a week because of his errant elbow to the head of the Brisbane Lions' Will Hamill.
Fletcher is out for one match due to his second-quarter strike on Geelong's Kane Tenace, assessing his swinging arm to the head as reckless conduct.
McVeigh was given a one-week enforced layoff for his strike on Gary Ablett in the third quarter, which the match review panel assessed as intentional and high.
Essendon faces the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night at Telstra Dome.
Should the Bombers accept or unsuccessfully challenge the two charges, the pair joins a lengthy casualty list from Friday night's 50-point thrashing.
Alwyn Davey had an operation to repair a fractured arm on Saturday and is out for the next eight weeks, while James Hird's calf injury could keep him out for up to a month.
Paddy Ryder has also been sidelined for the next fortnight with a strained Achilles.
Kerr's hit was deemed a level two offence and worth 125 demerit points, but an existing poor record and carry-over points means an early plea is unable to avoid a one-game ban.
Kerr has been suspended for three matches in the past three years and the Eagles advised on Monday night that the midfielder would accept the ban.
There was better news for Hawthorn's Luke Hodge, who has no case to answer after the match review panel cleared an incident with Adelaide's Michael Doughty.
The panel said Hodge swung his arm back as he was tackled by Doughty and made contact to the Adelaide player's arm, but video footage was inconclusive.
Team-mate Sam Mitchell said on Monday - before the panel's decisions were released - he was confident Hodge would be cleared.
"I've had a chat to Luke, he thinks he's fairly safe, I don't think he made the contact that perhaps some people thought he has," Mitchell said.
"I think we're pretty confident he'll be OK."
"Certainly he retaliated about something that wasn't great and he just wanted him to get away from him and thankfully probably he didn't make any contact that was too harmful."
Other players to get the match review panel's all-clear included St Kilda's Justin Koschitzke for his collision with Collingwood's Josh Fraser, Brisbane's Jamie Charman for his attempted spoil on Eagles midfielder Andrew Embley, Carlton's Anthony Koutoufides after his clash with Melbourne's Paul Wheatley and Demon James McDonald's accidental contact to the leg of Kade Simpson.
