Collingwood has continued its recent dominance of Sydney, posting a 45-point victory over the Swans at the Telstra Dome on Saturday night.
The 18.10 (118) to 10.13 (73) victory was Collingwood's sixth consecutive win over Sydney and guarantees the Magpies a spot in this year's finals series.
While the Swans slumped to a sixth defeat in their past eight games, they too will play in the finals this season after Carlton upset the Lions in Brisbane on the same night.
The Pies set-up the victory with a dominant first term where they outscored their opponents by eight goals to two and never let-up from that point on in an impressive all round performance.
Although the Swans won the hit-out count 43-29 and won the disposal count 334-331, they were slaughtered in the clearances, with Collingwood's onballers on top of its opponents throughout.
Dane Swan, Leon Davis, Scott Pendlebury and Shane O'Bree won plenty of the ball in the midfield and used the Sherrin well, constantly hitting targets inside 50 all night.
Travis Cloke was the main beneficiary up forward with five goals, while Paul Medhurst and John Anthony presented well and proved constant threats to the Sydney defence.
The Swans had few winners around the ground and none that performed for all four quarters.
Brett Kirk and Jude Bolton tried hard, Barry Hall had an interesting battle with Shane Wakelin, but too much was left to too few.
Well on top in the middle of the park, the Pies hit the ground running right from the opening bounce and had four goals on the board within the first nine minutes.
Not only had the Swans failed to trouble the scorers at this stage of the match, but they only had three kicks as a team and looked stunned by the big occasion.
Third-gamer Patrick Veszpremi attempted to provide a target for the Swans inside 50, but late goals to Davis and Cloke ensured the Magpies went into the first break with a match-winning six-goal advantage.
Cloke added his second with a simple set shot early in the second term and when O'Bree and Medhurst added majors shortly after, the Pies had opened up a 54-point lead and were cruising.
A goal from Jolly on the half-time siren reduced the Swans' deficit to 45, but it was all one way traffic to the home team and the Magpies' fans knew this and gave their players a well deserved standing ovation.
When Cloke kicked the two first goals of the second half the game was over, with Pies' fans deciding to enjoy the remainder of the game.
Not only did they cheer loudly and enjoy every goal, but they also jeered every time Hall went near the ball and made sure he knew he was playing away from home.
Sydney outscored Collingwood in the final term, but the damage was already done, as the Magpies went on to record a resounding victory and book their spot in September's action.
