Collingwood midfielder Shane O'Bree says the Magpies have banished memories of their Anzac Day meltdown against Essendon and are a different team heading into Friday night's blockbuster against the Bombers.
Furious Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse said his men had let down the Anzacs after they squandered a 14-point break late in the game and watched helplessly as Leroy Jetta, Ricky Dyson and teenage star David Zaharkis kicked goals to pinch a famous victory in Round 5.
The Magpies also dropped two of their next three games but have since posted five-straight wins to slip into fourth spot.
Fresh from an 84-point pounding of Fremantle, O'Bree says the Magpies are now ready to face the surging Bombers at the MCG.
"I think we have a fantastic group at the moment," O'Bree said on Monday.
"We have a lot of young guys that have played between 50 and 100 games so they have got enough experience and exposure for finals football and pressure football."
"Like I said before, our confidence and momentum is up at the moment so you never know where that could take us."
Momentum was clearly a problem on Anzac Day, a clash O'Bree and his team-mates prefer not to reflect upon.
"We have moved on a fair bit from that. We sort of let ourselves down," he said.
"We were in a winning position, to their credit the way they fought in the last five minutes and won the game, it was a great effort by them.
"It was one that got away but it's not something we'll look back on and say: 'we've got to get it back'. We let ourselves down."
The Magpies appear certain to recall dynamic midfielder Leon Davis after he withdrew from the Fremantle clash because of a virus while Scott Pendlebury could also be a surprise return after wrenching his knee against the Swans.
While Pendlebury had made it known he wants to play, club medical staff may take a more cautious approach.
"Scott was jogging on the weekend. He'll train all this week and give himself every chance to play," O'Bree said.
Key forward Travis Cloke has endured a miserable season but O'Bree hopes he has turned the corner after kicking three goals and taking eight marks against the Dockers.
"He did have a minor injury to his hamstring a few weeks back but he has been working really hard and his form at the weekend was really good," O' Bree said.
"He took a few good marks so hopefully he can take a lot of confidence out of that for the rest of the season."
O'Bree, who had 28 possessions against the Dockers, will have a major role to play again on Friday in trying to subdue a balanced Bombers midfield, although that task may be easier now hardnut Jobe Watson (ankle) is hurt.
"They have got a lot of players that are in-and-under and a couple of guys on the outside that have speed and can run the ball," he said.
