Boomers coach Brian Goorjian has given every indication that Nathan Jawai will not play for Australia at this year's Beijing Olympics.
On Friday, Jawai was selected in the NBA draft, but the reigning NBL rookie of the year winner is yet to feature for the Boomers in any of their warm-up matches for Beijing.
Goorjian said there was still an outside chance that Jawai would be a part of his 12-man squad for the Olympics, but it was becoming increasingly unlikely by the day.
"If he presents himself we will give him a look, but time is running short," Goorjian said.
"At this point in time, we are a week away from selecting the final team and he hasn't been a part of it so far."
"The ball has been in his court and he has run his race. I haven't heard anything other than he won't be available."
Competition for spots in the touring party for Beijing hotted up on Saturday night when the Boomers hosted New Zealand in Melbourne.
All of Goorjian's fringe players were given plenty of court time and a chance to impress, with the Boomers' boss scheduled to cut two members of the squad by Sunday.
David Barlow was one player who shone in the Boomers 37-point victory, scoring 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the three-point arc.
And the 24-year-old was also given the chance to play as point-guard during the final quarter in a move that Goorjian is looking to continue all the way through until Beijing.
"I am liking what I am seeing in Dave at the moment," Goorjian said.
"The improvement in him with the Tigers over the past two years has been unbelievable. He looks very calm, very comfortable and he gives us a different look in that spot."
'We will be playing a lot of minutes with him at the point in Europe to try and polish that up a little bit."
With two players set to be cut from the squad on Sunday and Jawai unlikely to feature at all, Goorjian is close to finalising the group he will take to Beijing to tackle the world.
Andrew Bogut, David Anderson and Matt Nielsen are three members who will join up with the remainder of the squad when the Boomers land in Europe for a tournament in Croatia next week and Goorjian believes that the Boomers captain in Beijing will come from one of this trio.
