Australia has landed its first blow in the boxing ring with Anthony Little posting his country's maiden victory of the Games.
Little, 27, downed Namibian Julius Munyelele Indongo in the men's lightweight competition at the Workers' Gymnasium on Monday evening.
Little dominated from the outset and opened up a 4-0 lead in the first round.
He stretched his advantage to 8-1 at the midway point of the fight and eventually came out a comprehensive 14-2 winner.
Little, the father of three, is one of only two Australians with Games experience in the boxing team. He is competing at his second Games after debuting in 2004.
Compatriot Paul Fleming looked solid in the first round of his meeting with Khedafi Djelkhir of France.
The Australian rookie had a 3-1 break after just two minutes but was pummeled in the second round, giving up six points to one.
The Frenchman held on to take the featherweight fight 13 points to nine.
The next Aussies in action are 17-year-old Stephen Sutherland in the men's fly and Luke Boyd in the bantam class on Tuesday.
