Little luck for boxers

Little luck for boxers

15/08/2008 7:09 PM

Australia's campaign for Olympic boxing gold has come to an end with the only competitor to make it into the second round, Anthony Little, eliminated by Russian Alexey Tischenko.

Tischenko won the featherweight gold in Athens and the step up to lightweight has proven no obstacle as he continues to dominate his opponents.

After scoring three points off the Aussie in the opening round, he had a 6-1 lead by the halfway point with excellent footwork and some sharp punches.

He turned up the heat in the third round, picking up five more points without a reply, including three monster right-hand punches. Little did score the only two points in the final round, but it was too little too late for the 27-year-old from Perth.

He can take heart however that the man who sent him on his way back home will probably go on to claim the gold medal.
