TEST RUGBY; LEAGUE WC BETTING PREVIEW

TEST RUGBY; LEAGUE WC BETTING PREVIEW

14/11/2008 7:22 PM

They’re down to brass tacks in the Rugby League World Cup as the final four go at it for a place in next weekend’s final, and the Wallabies’ European tour gets serious in England after a successful Mediterranean jaunt. A big weekend awaits rugby fans of both codes, and with the best value around, in-play betting, and the ability to trade and lock yourself in a profit, the ideal place for rugby and rugby league punters alike, is Betfair. And you can keep abreast of all the action – including the host of union internationals to be played over the weekend – at the Betfair rugby zone.

TEST MATCH RUGBY: ENGLAND v AUSTRALIA
Sunday November 15th | 1.30am AEDT |Twickenham, London
The short-priced Wallabies gave punters a bit of a scare last week in Padova, before winning relatively comfortably – albeit unconvincingly – against the Azzuri. This week’s task is not so easier given the loss of some key personnel last week, and against an England pack that has had little trouble in turning the Wallabies into Wobblies in recent years (particularly outside of the antipodes). Punters have thus installed the hosts 1.96 faves, and the visitors 2.14 outsiders. A fairly appropriate estimation, one would think.

THE MARKETS
This is where things get very interesting. Such is the Poms’ love for rugby betting, some twenty markets on the match exist; a perfect opportunity to fleece some cash from punters in the Old Dart. Of particular interest will be the winning margin market – the either teams’ defensive competency suggests a low-margin victory is likely. England under 12.5 points at 2.82, perhaps? Whatever your fancy, there are no shortage of opportunities to find a profit!

RLWC SEMI-FINALS
AUSTRALIA v FIJI

Sunday November 16th | 7.55pm AEDT
Amazingly more than $1m has already been traded on Sunday’s match on Betfair’s match odds market, the only available among local operators. More importantly, some $600k+ sits waiting to be matched on the Aussies, all at odds of $1.10 and under. This may become money for jam for astute punters when the game begins and ‘in-play’ betting takes effect, particularly if the plucky Polynesians put any points past the locals early.

For those seeking a bit more value might want to have a little dabble at the Fijians who are whopping $130 to cause the boilover of the century. Here’s your opportunity to put up a price and get involved in-play, punters!

NEW ZEALAND v ENGLAND
Saturday November 15th | 7.55pm AEDT
The Kiwis had England’s measure last weekend, but pundits suggest this result should be regarded with caution. With this in mind, the Poms look great value on the exchange, with 2.72 available, as opposed to a skinny 1.57 about New Zealand. This is the opinion shared by our expert Nick Tedeschi anyway; view Nick’s preview of the semi-finals here.
