Busy time for Mariner

Mariner gets his big chance

03/10/2008 1:41 PM

The biggest week in the career of talented Central Coast Mariners goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne intensifies in Adelaide on Friday night.

Redmayne will make his A-League starting debut as the Mariners battle to go top of the competition with victory against Adelaide at Hindmarsh Stadium.

With Danny Vukovic still suspended and Mark Bosnich out injured, the goalkeeping duties now rest with Redmayne, and the Gosford City junior is desperate to make the most of the rare opportunity.

The youngster came on for Bosnich in last week's win over Perth and performed well. He is now desperate to back up with another strong display.

Friday night's game is just the beginning of what will be a busy period for the shot-stopper.

He will fly out for Thailand on Saturday to join his Young Socceroos teammates in time for the first game of the ASEAN under-19 championships on Sunday.

Redmayne was due to fly out to Thailand on Wednesday but was allowed to stay in Australia to make his A-League starting debut.

"I can't wait for Friday night, this is something I've wanted for a long time,'' Redmayne said.

"It's going to be a big few days but it's exciting. To get a chance to make my starting debut and then still play for the Young Socceroos is great. Everything has worked out very well.''

Friday night will be a big night for Redmayne. The youngster will not only play in the A-League but will also sit on the bench in the National Youth League. Matthew Nash will start between the sticks in the youth match and sit on the bench in the main game.
