Glory secure Srhoj

Perth Glory has bolstered its squad with the signing of defensive midfielder Wayne Srhoj on a one-year deal.

The 26 year old Queenslander previously played for the Glory in the National Soccer League (NSL) but has spent the last four years playing in Romania for capital club FC National Bucuresti and Politehnica 1921 Stiinta Timisoara, which released him at the end of last season.

"It has been a while since I last played in Australia and I'm really looking forward to putting the Glory shirt back on and getting out there with the boys," he said.

Srhoj has been training with Perth for the past fortnight, building his fitness and hoping to press for selection as soon as possible.

"I'm feeling fitter and fitter with every session and I'll continue to work overtime to show the coach I'm ready to go," he said.

Srhoj was a member of Perth Glory's 2003/04 National Soccer League championship team.

"When I was last here Perth Glory was the standout team in Australian football and I see no reason why they can't be again," Srhoj said.

"I'm happy to be back and looking forward to getting onto the pitch in the near future."

Coach Dave Mitchell said Srhoj still had work to do on his fitness but said when he was ready, he'd be an excellent addition to the club's midfield, with his defensive capabilities complimenting fellow new signing Amaral's attacking instincts.

"Wayne is an accomplished player who is technically very good and has excellent passing range," he said.

"He is a great addition to our squad and as he builds to peak fitness he'll be very important for us throughout the campaign."

Srhoj's signature completes the Glory's 23-man roster for this season, although the club remains eligible to bring in a 'guest' player for seven matches.
