Gumprecht not giving up

Gumprecht not giving up

12/06/2009 10:36 AM

He was dumped from the Central Coast Mariners last month but veteran midfielder Andre Gumprecht believes his chances of an A-League return are far from over.

Gumprecht was a foundation member of the Mariners but was one of four players who didn't have their contracts renewed last month.

He was joined on the outer by defender Paul O'Grady and midfielders Nick Rizzo and Greg Owens.

But Gumprecht is adamant his career at the top level in Australia will continue next season.

He has signed to play with Bonnyrigg in the NSW Premier League competition and believes the stint with the second tier team will keep him in good shape.

"I've had discussions with a couple of A-League clubs and I'm now just waiting for a call," the former Perth Glory player said.

"I'll be ready to go at any time."

"I'm sure I'll be playing in the A-League next season."

"Playing with Bonnyrigg will keep my match fitness up. It was disappointing how my time at the Mariners ended but I know I can still play at that level."

Gumprecht went through a similar situation last year when the Mariners told him he was no longer required by the club but he got a late reprieve and turned in several eye-catching performances last season.

However, he could not hold down a regular starting berth and finished the season in frustrating fashion as the Mariners went through their first ever Asian Champions League campaign without winning a match.
