Milicevic and Melbourne split

Milicevic and Melbourne split

22/02/2008 3:06 PM

The fractious relationship between Ljubo Milicevic and Melbourne Victory has come to an end, with the former Socceroo released from the club on Friday.

A Victory spokesman confirmed that the defender was no longer employed with the club.

Milicevic began his stint with the Victory at the start of the 2007/08 A-League season, but endured a troubled time with the club.

His tenure included a ban for missing a team breakfast in Adelaide.

He had ruled himself out with a knee injury for much of the 2007-08 season and played just two games with the club.

Milicevic will play no part in the Victory's AFC campaign.

Milicevic's management confirmed the split on Friday before the club broke its silence.

In a brief statement, Melbourne football operations manager Gary Cole said: "We have reached an agreement with Ljubo Milicevic to mutually terminate his contract and we wish him well for the future."
