No fractures for Piorkowski

No fractures for Piorkowski

15/09/2008 8:29 PM

Newcastle Jets central defender Daniel Piorkowski has been cleared of any fractures to his mouth after suffering the injury in Saturday night's match against Sydney FC.

The big defender had teeth knocked loose in an incident in the second half, but x-rays on Monday revealed no fractures to his injured mouth.

The former Victory player signed for the Jets on an eight-week deal as a replacement player for the injured Shaun Ontong.

The 24-year old will revisit the dentist this Wednesday for nerve testing and a more localised x-ray, and will train with the team on Tuesday at Newcastle University.

Newcastle Jets' dentist Dr. Angelo Sklavos treated Piorkowski and explained that his condition was encouraging.

"At this point in time everything is stable. Daniel's pain level has reduced, the scans revealed no root fractures, and he seems to have improved greatly over the past 48 hours," he said.

"We've inserted a retaining wire to hold the teeth in place but no other immediate treatment is necessary."

"We’ll do a nerves test first thing on Wednesday morning so we'll have a better idea then. All in all, the signs are very positive for Daniel."

Piorkowski will have to wear a mouth-guard should he play in Friday night's Round 5 clash against the Queensland Roar at Suncorp Stadium.
