A final fling for Whobe

A final fling for Whobegotyou

20/04/2009 6:01 PM

Star Melbourne three-year-old Whobegotyou will get one last chance to win a Group One race in Sydney in this Saturday's Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh is almost certain he will back up Whobegotyou in the Queen Elizabeth after the galloper pulled up well from last Saturday's Doncaster.

"He's nominated. Providing he does well this week, he will," he said.

"He scraped a leg during the run. There was a little bit of this and that but at this stage he's pretty good."

Whobegotyou was desperately unlucky in the Doncaster where he finished third, beaten a length after not getting a clear passage in the straight.

"I'm not going to dwell on that," Kavanagh said. "I'm going to go forward and say he'd be a pretty good chance on that run this Saturday."

There were 20 nominations on Monday for the Queen Elizabeth, including Doncaster winner Vision And Power, star three-year-olds Metal Bender and Roman Emperor and proven Group One performer Pompeii Ruler.

Veteran jockey Jim Cassidy has elected to ride AJC Derby winner Roman Emperor instead of Vision And Power.

Meanwhile, scans later this week will give Kavanagh a better indication when reigning Cox Plate champion Maldivian will be able to return to the track.

Maldivian injured a suspensory ligament in February after winning the Orr Stakes at Caulfield.
