Sacked Sydney Roosters coach Brad Fittler wants to stay in the game but has ruled out working under in-coming boss Brian Smith.
Fittler said he was still digesting his shock axing and would take some time out at the end of the season to consider his future.
The Roosters legend will remain in charge until the end of this season before passing the reins to the experienced Smith from 2010.
Smith shocked the Newcastle camp by walking out on the last year of his contract to take up the Roosters' four-year deal, worth $2.4m.
"There'll be no role at the Roosters," Fittler told The Sunday Footy Show.
"I've only known for a day so I'll most probably chill out at the end of the season and look at my options."
"I'll definitely coach in some manner, there's no doubt about that. I really enjoyed it."
Fittler also told of his disappointed with the club after finding out that the Under 20's trainers knew of his sacking before he did.
"I sat down with Steve Noyce yesterday and he assured me that it was only him, me and Brian Smith that knew. I found out later that the Under 20’s trainer knew before me, so that was really disappointing that part of it," he told BigPond Sports Weekend on Sunday.
"In regards to how they move you on, it was always going to be difficult given my relationship with the Roosters."
"Three or four weeks ago I informed my staff that there was a really good chance that I wasn't going to be here next year given how the season has gone … it has been a really poor season on and off the field and the coach has mass responsibilities for both of those areas."
Despite Fittler's declaration that there is no future for him at his current club, former Roosters coach Phil Gould hopes Smith will find a role for the one of the club's all-time greats.
"He (Smith) indicated to me that he'd like Brad to remain on in some capacity and I hope in time Brad sees fit to do that," Gould said.
"I think Brian could offer him a lot in the way of experience and education."
Asked what he thought of Smith's appointment, Gould replied: "I think it's a great coup for the club ... they've acquired a great coach."
"I've always been a big admirer of Brian Smith and I think he's the right man for the job."
Meanwhile, there are already maneuverings behind the scenes as coaches line-up to apply for the soon-to-be-vacant Newcastle job.
Current assistant coach Rick Stone is believed to be the front-runner, while there is also support for assistant Melbourne boss Michael Maguire.
Ricky Stuart's right-hand man at the Sharks - and NSW assistant coach - Shane Flanagan has also been mentioned as a candidate and ex-Manly coach Peter Sharp may be another contender.
