Adam Goodes won't be celebrating his 200th consecutive match with the Sydney Swans this weekend unless his team can defeat Port Adelaide.
During his 217-game career, Goodes has enjoyed an excellent run with injury and at the AFL tribunal and is set to join Jim Stynes, Adem Yze and Jack Titus as the only players to manage 200 matches on the trot when the Swans travel to Adelaide to tackle the Power on Saturday afternoon.
Last season Goodes celebrated his 200th game for the Swans with a victory over the Dockers at the SCG and the 28-year-old wants another win this weekend to make his new feat even more special.
"I was lucky enough to play my 200th game last year which was a pretty big celebration," Goodes said.
"I don't think it will be anything like that but if we get the victory on Saturday I might have a little celebration afterwards."
Since making his debut for the Swans in Round 1 of 1999, Goodes has only ever missed three games, and all of those came in his first season.
And while admitting he has been close to missing a couple of games through injury since then, Goodes said his longevity in the game would not have been possible without the help of the medical staff at the Swans.
"I have been lucky with injuries and the medical people here at the Swans and the recovery program we have here everything they have to protect the body I really buy into," Goodes said.
"A lot of the credit goes to those medical staff and the fitness people for keeping my body in good enough condition to play 200 games in a row."
After a slow start to the season, Goodes has found some of his best form during the past month and is averaging a little under 25 disposals a game in the Swans past three contests.
Most players in the league would be more than happy with those stats, but Goodes feels he still has plenty of areas he needs to improve on.
"My skill efficiency at the moment is really poor and I am really turning the football over. I am getting a lot of the ball but I am not using it as effectively as I would like to in games," Goodes said.
"I am also working on trying to get forward and really make the opposition hurt by kicking a couple of goals."
The Swans currently occupy fifth place on the ladder with four wins and a draw from eight games, but Goodes has not ruled out a top-four finish for his side and believes his team can mix it with the best later this season and in the finals.
"Those three teams are the benchmark and it is good that everyone is talking about them but it is only Round 8 and it is a long season," Goodes said.
"We are looking forward to playing those teams when we get to them, but playing Port Adelaide this weekend is going to be just as big a challenge."
