Brendan Fevola may be the toast of Carlton after signing a new three-year deal, but across town at Whitten Oval, his name is mud according to Western Bulldogs forward Jason Akermanis.
Asked at training on Thursday for his thoughts on Fevola's branding of the Bulldogs as 'unaccountable' after Sunday's match at Telstra Dome, Akermanis said: "I should let you in on my golden rule."
"My golden rule is that I do not respond to crap."
"Take it as you want, but I don’t want to talk about stuff like that."
One topic that Akermanis was prepared to discuss was the Bulldogs' indifferent form coming out of the mid-season break, perceived in some quarters as the start of a slump.
Akermanis believes the Dogs would be courting trouble to start thinking negatively.
"If you've got talent and you persist it will change," he said.
"I've been around for long enough and I've known that when it does go a little bit south it's more about … thinking too much where I'm worried about stuff I shouldn’t be, and I (should) back my instincts."
"We're not that far off it - we've just got to get it right for four quarters."
Akermanis said there was no better opponent to be taking on this week than the Sydney Swans at Manuka on Sunday, for they're the best in the business one-on-one and will provide the Bulldogs with a genuine test.
"Our work rate has got to be up and we've got to start winning the contested ball and perhaps that will start to turn the results our way," he said.
