Akermanis set to play on

Western Bulldogs star Jason Akermanis has given his strongest indication yet that he is poised to re-sign with the club and play on for another year.
Akermanis, who turns 33 in February, has only missed four matches for the Bulldogs since being traded from Brisbane at the end of 2006.
The 314-game veteran thought his time at the Dogs would finish at the end of the year but after rediscovering some of his best form, he believes he can go on for another year.
"A couple of weeks ago I got a strong impression that my time at the club was to be welcomed for another twelve months and that's always a nice feeling," he told BigPond Sports weekend
"I think that up until that point I'd just figured that I would retire at the end of the year as I was getting that feeling that they didn't want me. It's amazing how that can change given your form and your ability to do the job which is the reasons behind why they would say that."
"What I'm thinking now is if we won a premiership I think that they would need me more than ever to go around again because I was in the team that got the job done ... my gut feeling is now more than ever that I will go for another twelve months."
Akermanis also said that he is willing to take a pay cut to accommodate the signatures of defenders Brian Lake and Ryan Hargrave.
"I think they will re-sign Brian and the same with Ryan Hargrave ... it's not so much about money rather the will, the want and the enjoyment and that's there, we can work out all the facts and figures later," he said.
"The problem with our club is that they haven't been able to use their full allocation of the extra TTP which is the ability to have a marketing component in there."
"That's a big issue at our club and that's why we struggle to have rookies and the like so if they want to retain a guy like me and they can use that then that'll help."
