Port Adelaide has enhanced its workmanlike reputation in reinstating Dom Cassisi as captain and Jacob Surjan and Dean Brogan as his new deputies.
Cassisi was the surprise replacement for Warren Tredrea in 2009 with the classier Shaun Burgoyne and the Cornes brothers overlooked.
This year the introduction of Surjan and Brogan is another signal the Power is out to reward its battlers who've succeeded through hard work.
Brogan was drafted to the Power as a rookie from South Adelaide at the end of 2000 after winning an NBL championship with the Adelaide 36ers, while Surjan was recruited via the 2004 AFL pre-season draft.
Coach Mark Williams said the trio's AFL journey would be an inspiration to others at the club.
"These guys are people that most of the AFL didn't want at any time and it really does give the younger players the view 'Gee, we can get somewhere' and it's all about hard work and desire and if you have goals you really work towards you can get anyway," he said.
Cassisi, who won the 2009 Fos Williams medal for best team man as voted by his team-mates, said he is excited about heading into his second year as skipper.
"Last year being my first year as captain I took time to develop and learn what was required both on and off the field. With a year now under my belt I'm really excited about this year and already feel a lot more comfortable in the role,” Cassisi said.
Brogan, 31, is in the home stretch of his career but at 24 Surjan appears the heir apparent to Cassisi.
However Williams said the leadership group was not set in stone with a number of younger squad members sure to come into contention in years to come.
"What happens in the future I'm not sure. Jacob has certainly improved and is in the running for that sort of honour but as you saw previously Chad (Cornes) and Shaun (Burgoyne) and those sort of people were in those positions before so it (the captaincy) doesn't necessarily follow," he said.
"I think that it stands out that these guys are the most dominant, most vocal, best communicators and pretty comfortable in their own skin if you like as far as where they sit in the organisation and also in the football world."
Below Cassisi, Brogan and Surjan the Power has indentified 10 others players with leadership traits.
Williams said they will be given extra support to ensure they'll be ready to lead the side if the need arises down the track.
The leadership news comes on the eve of Port's Family Day and first trial match at Alberton Oval.
