Western Bulldogs midfielder Daniel Cross believes his team has what it takes to beat the best clubs in the competition.
Along with Geelong and Hawthorn, the Bulldogs are one of three undefeated team's, while Adelaide sit ominously in fourth place with just two losses from the opening seven rounds of the season.
One of Adelaide's defeats was to the Bulldogs in the opening round and Cross sees no reason why his team cannot mix it with the competition heavyweights later this year and in the finals.
"We showed in round one when both sides were fresh … we got over the line (against the Crows)," Cross said.
"We play Hawthorn in a couple of weeks and we don't play Geelong for another few weeks but it will certainly show (where we are at) when we play them."
"But we believe we have got the cattle to match it with those guys."
While Geelong and Hawthorn were among the premiership favourites at the start of the season, the Bulldogs and to a lesser extent the Crows, were expected to struggle.
With such a strong start to 2008 the Dogs could easily get ahead of themselves, but Cross says the pre-season goal of the club to finish in the top eight was still the only focus.
"Its only very early days so I think finals is still just our agenda," he said.
"The start we have had certainly gives us a chance to look at that (a top-four berth), but the next block of seven weeks is going to determine whether we can really seriously consider that."
Cross, who is averaging 26.14 disposals per game this season, may not receive the praise that team-mates Adam Cooney and Ryan Griffen do, but the underrated 25-year-old believes he is in career best form.
"I think it is the best start that I have had to a season," Cross said.
"I was very fortunate to be included in the squad last week for the Dreamteam match and that shows that I am going ok."
"It certainly was an honour to be in that squad but there is a long way to go and I am certainly not resting on my laurels at the moment."
