Crows crave firing forwards

Crows crave firing forwards

10/07/2008 8:17 AM

Adelaide's misfiring forward line desperately needs a boost but there are no clear contenders ready to break into the line-up for this weekend's clash against Collingwood.

The Crows have lost their past three games, a skid that has coincided with an impotent attack.

Tall Kurt Tippett is finding it hard to get touches, Brett Burton's only managed two goals in the past fortnight while Simon Goodwin has lost his early-season form in front of the big sticks.

Nick Gill has been a recent inclusion to the forward line but is yet to make a significant impact.

Trent Hentschel had been pushing for selection in recent weeks but strained his hamstring in the SANFL and won't be playing the Magpies.

Goodwin said the strong-marking Hentschel had been 'really close' to making an AFL comeback before his latest setback.

"We were really excited in Trent's progress, he was progressing really well with his knee, he's just having these little setbacks along the way," Goodwin said.

"I think as a footy club we half expected it, for Trent to get his body right. He's never been a player that's had the perfect body by any stretch of the imagination. Trent is continuing to work on that and we are sure that in the next few weeks Trent will be back and playing and hopefully close to getting a game."

Taylor Walker is one option for the Crows but the club has indicated they need more consistency from the 18-year-old.

"Taylor is really going well at the SANFL level and no doubt he's continuing to put his name up at selection so he's a young lad that's really grown into his body," Goodwin said.

"He's a goal kicker, takes a strong mark so there's no doubt Taylor, with continued performances, is getting really close."

Goodwin said he was looking forward to returning to his best form after struggling with some minor injuries.

"There's no doubt the break certainly helped me, I had some issues with the body, but they are all better now and I feel like I am moving as well as I have at the start of the year. I'm back to the way I like to feel when I'm playing," he said.

Meanwhile, another goal-kicking on-baller is desperate to put in a strong performance after some midweek controversy.

Goodwin suggested Scott Thompson, who received a suspended jail sentence and lost his driver's licence for a year after admitting to fleeing the scene of a crash last October, would be playing in the Round 15 clash.

"Scott's got enormous character and I'm sure with his personal problems he's got at the moment he'll be looking to put in a big game for sure," he said.
