Adelaide star Scott Thompson has been handed a four-month suspended jail sentence and had his drivers' license suspended for 12 months after admitting to fleeing the scene of a crash last October.
In addition to the legal penalty, the club's management slugged Thompson - who appeared in the Port Adelaide Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning - with a $5000 suspended fine and ordered him to do 50 hours' community work.
The additional sanction was dished out to the midfielder in consultation with the Crows' leadership group and behaviour committee.
Thompson's community work, which he commenced in April, will mostly revolve around crash victims.
The Adelaide Football Club said in a press release that it was confident Thompson would come out the other end of this experience a wiser individual.
The 25-year-old said he was 'glad' to be able to finally put the case behind him.
"I'm glad the matter has concluded because it's been hanging over my head for nearly nine months," Thompson said.
"I am regretful of the actions of the evening and this exercise has been a great learning curve for me."
"Hopefully I can pass on some of that experience to others."
Thompson has been one of the standout midfielders in the competition this season averaging more than 25 touches in each of his 14 matches.
