Melbourne coach Dean Bailey expects any club in the running for gun West Coast midfielder Daniel Kerr to hold the upper hand at the negotiating table.
Kerr is understood to be up for grabs at the end of the season, however, the Eagles are expected to demand two top-10 selections in this year's highly-touted draft in exchange for the 25-year-old.
Bailey all but ruled the Demons out of contention for the 2006 premiership star on Thursday.
"He's a very good player Daniel Kerr. Maybe someone might be prepared to trade out a first-round pick," Bailey said.
"The negotiation would be heavily in favour of the team that wants to get him."
"It's going to be tough but anything's possible."
"We'll keep our picks, we won't be trading. We want to keep our first pick and as of today there's also 17 and 19. We'll be really keen to keep our picks."
The rookie coach said using the Demons' selections on building a side from the ground up was his philosophy.
"We have a young list now and this year it's important that we draft well," he said.
"Every year you should draft well. You can't pick and choose drafts and you have to ensure you put all of the work into it so you can produce and develop players."
"We've got a young list now, we'll have a young list again next year."
"How we coach and how we develop them is super important."
Bailey said there were positives in a season he conceded was 'very disappointing' and 'not good enough'.
"We're in a business where win-loss is important. It's been a very disappointing year from a win-loss point of view."
"The positive to come out of it is Jack (Grimes) becomes the seventh debutant that's going to represent Melbourne (this season)."
"We've played 39 players of our list, we've given great exposure to young players and we've given them game times during games where they've had to fight their way back in."
"Win-loss, not good enough, but we've clearly shown the direction we will be taking and we've clearly shown the decisions we make will be based around developing a young team for the future."
