Richmond midfielder Brett Deledio became the youngest winner of back-to-back best and fairest awards at the club in 40 years as he stormed home to win the Jack Dyer Medal on Wednesday night.

At 22 years and five months, Deledio is the youngest winner of successive B&Fs at the Tigers since Kevin Bartlett in 1967-68.

Deledio polled 190 votes to hold off Daniel Jackson (175) and captain Chris Newman (162) for the coveted award, with Richard Tambling (152) and high-profile recruit Ben Cousins (145) rounding out the top five.

Deledio was ranked No.1 at the club for total disposals in 2009 (533), at an average of 24.2 per game, and No.1 for inside-50 entries (99). He had 20 disposals or more 19 times throughout the season, with a career-high 36 against Hawthorn at the MCG in Round 21. He also booted 20 goals, to finish fourth on the Tigers’ goalkicking list.

Jackson, who also received the most improved player award, held the lead in Jack Dyer Medal voting from Round 12 until Round 21, when he was overtaken by Deledio. Just two votes separated the pair heading into the last round of voting, but Deledio polled 14 votes to Jackson's one to clinch his second best and fairest award.

Jackson was ranked third in the total disposals category at the club with 507, at an average of 23 per game. In five seasons before this year, he was averaging 11.9 disposals per game.

Newman, in his first year as Tigers skipper, achieved his fifth top-10 finish in the Jack Dyer Medal. He averaged 20.8 disposals per game, and he was ranked No.1 in rebounds with 78.

Cousins averaged 23.9 disposals per game in his 15 appearances, which was up on his overall AFL career average of 22.4 per game heading into the 2009 season.

Foley, who missed the last eight games of the season due to a severe calf injury, still managed to finish a creditable sixth in the voting.

In other awards, Robin Nahas won the best first-year player, Luke McGuane won the Francis Bourke Award and Mitch Morton was rewarded with the Michael Roach Award for leading goalkicker.
