Beware the late change!
That would certainly be the advice to AFL tipsters and punters this week with doubt still surrounding a number of the game's biggest stars, who were named in their various teams on Thursday night.
Essendon named former skipper James Hird in its line-up to meet Carlton at the MCG on Saturday, just a day after he declared himself a certain non-starter due to the calf injury that has sidelined him since round 14.
Port Adelaide named skipper Warren Tredrea for Sunday's top four clash against Hawthorn in Tasmania, but he remains a concern due to his chronic groin problems while reigning premiers West Coast named its champion skipper Chris Judd for Saturday night's home clash against Richmond - even though there is speculation the Eagles will rest Judd for the home match against the league's bottom side as he continues to struggle with groin problems.
Meanwhile the Crows named star forward Brett Burton, even though he injured his knee during last week's loss against Geelong.
The Bombers, who are still in the finals race despite winning just two of their past eight matches, surprisingly dropped key pair David Hille and Jobe Watson - who has had at least 22 possessions or more for the past six matches - while naming Hird and veteran pair Scott Camporeale and Mark Johnson as well as first gamer Heath Hocking.
The Blues welcomed back experienced pair Matthew Lappin and Lance Whitnall for injured pair Bret Thornton (ankle) and Shaun Grigg (knee).
Collingwood made five changes for Friday night's MCG clash against Melbourne following its shock loss to bottom side Richmond last week.
The Pies dropped experienced pair Paul Licuria, for the second time in a month, as well as full-back Simon Prestigiacomo while number one ruckman Josh Fraser was ruled out with back and ankle problems.
Heading the list of inclusions, as the Pies resisted the temptation to rush back skipper Nathan Buckley who instead will play in the VFL, were reigning club champion Alan Didak and Sean Rusling, who comes in for his first game of the year following a shoulder re-construction during the pre-season.
Melbourne regained star on-baller Brock McLean following a groin injury but lost Brent Moloney to an adductor problem.
St Kilda made three changes for Saturday's mini elimination final against Fremantle with Shane Birss, Raphael Clarke and Brett Voss returning in place of dumped trio Jayden Attard, Clinton Jones and Michael Rix.
The Dockers, who will go above the Saints on the ladder if they win at Telstra Dome in the increasingly tight battle for eighth spot, made just one change with the experienced Matthew Carr returning in place of Andrew Foster.
The Eagles named Judd and made just one change with the experienced Chad Fletcher returning in place of hamstring victim Andrew Embley while opponents Richmond also made one change with Jack Riewoldt in for Angus Graham (broken ankle).
Sydney made no change for Saturday night's tough trip to Brisbane with key defenders Leo Barry and Lewis Roberts-Thomson still sidelined while for the Lions Scott Harding and Richard Hadley come in for the suspended Rhan Hooper and Matthew Moody.
Port not only named Tredrea, who has not played since round 16, but also ruckman Dean Brogan, who missed last week with a back injury, while opponents Hawthorn lost Richie Vandenberg (knee).
Geelong dropped David Johnson for Sunday's match against the
