West Coast assistant coach Peter Sumich feels the Crows may be licking their chops at the prospect of playing the out-of-form Eagles twice in the first 10 rounds as a result of the AFL's unusual draw for 2008.

In previous years, each team has played each other over the first 15 rounds of the competition, before playing a further seven matches to complete the draw.

But, this time around, the AFL has introduced a more random selection of games that sees some clubs play twice within a few rounds while others - like pacesetters Geelong and Hawthorn - do not meet until very late in the campaign.

Sumich, though, feels the Eagles could spoil Adelaide's party at Subiaco on Saturday night, especially after a promising display in their narrow loss to North Melbourne last weekend.

"It's a funny situation," Sumich said.

"If Adelaide are looking at it now, they beat us in round two and we're not going so well so they're going, 'that's good at least we have West Coast and we can pencil in another four points'."

"(For) Adelaide, on their side, it's looking promising. For us, we're up against a side in great form and we're edging towards some good form, so it's going to be a tough one."

"All we can do is play our footy and that's what we're going to concentrate on and I think we're very close to getting four points."

Sumich admitted the Eagles may have taken Adelaide lightly when the two teams met earlier this season. At the time, the Eagles were coming off a win at home over the Lions while the Crows had been narrowly beaten by the Western Bulldogs in round one.

West Coast were also enjoying a five-match winning run against Adelaide, but that all changed on a gloomy afternoon at AAMI Stadium as the Crows belted in eight goals to one in the final quarter to win by a record 76-point margin, a result that started a seven-match losing streak for the Eagles.

"We were way off in that game," Sumich said.

"Because we've had some very good success against Adelaide .... the boys went in very confident and whether they went in overconfident (that may have) just cost us a little bit."

"I think (Simon) Goodwin had a day out that day, he kicked seven and we didn't really have anybody to stop him so that's the major thing to come out of that game."
