Port Adelaide is close to re-signing Brett Ebert for season 2009.
The strong-marking small forward, who falls out of contract at the end of the year, says he's keen to stay at Alberton and strike a new deal with the club.
"Dad (Port Adelaide legend Russell Ebert) has been sitting down with Peter Rohde (football operations manager) for the last few weeks and hopefully it should be done soon and I think we've got a couple of others that should sign as well pretty soon," Ebert said.
"It's a great club and it would be good to sign on."
Ebert, like the rest of the side, hasn't produced his best form this season but is highly regarded at Port after kicking 56 goals last season.
He's one of the few Power players feeling secure about his future with the club publicly admitting it will be culling the squad at the end of the season.
Ebert said some of his team-mates were feeling the pressure that comes with the side performing poorly.
"There could be a few changes, I suppose that will happen at the end of the year, so they've just got to play as well as they can over the next eight weeks and see what it happens from there," he said.
"Every player is feeling the heat, that's what comes with a few losses but we've had a mid-year break, we've had a look at a few things and we've been playing fast and exciting footy and those guys are going to be part of it."
"Everyone is putting in a lot more effort, we've had a few meetings and stuff like that but we've got to be positive as well."
"We don't want to dwell on the losses too much, it's been frustrating and a win will change a few things and hopefully get us on a run."
Port is hopeful its winning run will begin against North Melbourne at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night.
An injury-plagued Chad Cornes may return to strengthen the team's chances while the Power's recent good form against their once bogey side has them full of optimism about the weekend ahead.
"Last year was different compared to this year, the situation we are in, but we always usually play well against North Melbourne," Ebert said.
"It's going to be a tight man-on-man contest and hopefully we can get a win."
