Hall to push through pain

Hall to push through pain

20/08/2007 8:01 PM

Sydney Swans coach Paul Roos says full-forward Barry Hall ongoing groin injury is not effecting his kicking for goal.

Hall posted a disappointing 1.5 in Saturday night's draw with the Brisbane Lions, but Roos said on Monday it was more due to an off night rather than the groin problems which have hampered him all season.

"When we sat down with him and asked him about it, he felt his kicking was still OK," Roos said.

"It's interesting, I was watching him kick before the game and I don't think he missed one."

"I think the distance was still there, so it wasn't as if they were dropping short, he was just missing them to just one side."

Hall, who is enduring statistically one of his worst season on record with just 39 goals from 18 matches, is limited to just 20 minutes training a week.

Another star player, West Coast Eagles captain and Brownlow medallist Chris Judd, is also carrying a groin injury and was a late withdrawal last week against Richmond.

Asked if Hall also needed a week off in the run up to the finals, Roos said: "No, not at this stage."

"Unless he actually says he's really, really sore then he wouldn't he play but certainly his form warrants his inclusion," Roos said.

"He's worked his way into some good form over the last six weeks."

Saturday night's draw leaves Sydney precariously placed in seventh spot with 11 and a half wins, four points clear of the eighth placed St Kilda and half a game behind Collingwood, Hawthorn and the Kangaroos.

Roos said it was important to not 'get too hung up' about the missed opportunity against Brisbane, suggesting the two points gave them a 'bit more of a buffer' in terms of finishing inside the top eight.

Roos also claimed runaway competition leader Geelong was the deserved premiership favourites at the moment.
