Hawthorn has zeroed-in on former Western Bulldog Wayde Skipper as the latest potential solution to the club's shortage of ruck options.
Skipper, a 193cm utility who made 45 senior appearances in his seven seasons with the Bulldogs, has been given permission to train with the Hawks in the lead-up to next week's national draft.
The retirement of Robert Campbell and the prospect that Max Bailey will miss 2010 following a third knee reconstruction leaves Hawthorn short of ruck options for next season.
The Hawks, who have also taken Richmond reject Dean Putt under their wing, need urgent back-up for the only two ruckmen on their list, Simon Taylor and Brent Renouf.
Others given permission to train in recent days include former Geelong speedster Kane Tenace at Melbourne, while Collingwood is having a look at Kristopher Pendlebury, the younger brother of star Magpie midfielder Scott Pendlebury.
Skipper and Tenace are among a total of 52 delisted players who've nominated for the 2009 national draft.
A notable omission from the list is Brisbane defender Joel Macdonald which suggests he has an agreement in place for the pre-season draft, possibly with Melbourne which has first pick.
Former St Kilda utility Jarryd Allen who retired in August because of a debilitating hip injury has also nominated for the national draft but don't expect a miraculous comeback from the 21-year-old.
Allen is still contracted to the club next season and the Saints will aim to keep him on their rookie list for the remainder of his contract.
Other delisted players hoping for another chance in next week's draft include Allen's former team-mates Luke Ball and Matt Maguire, ex-Swan Luke Ablett, former Blue Cameron Cloke and veteran Russell Robertson whose 228-game career at Melbourne came to an end this season.
