Star Man: Clinton Young (Hawthorn) - When the game had to be won in the first half it was one of the Hawks' youngest and most inexperienced midfielders who did much of the damage although he had plenty of support from fellow young gun Jordan Lewis, skipper Sam Mitchell and veteran Shane Crawford as the Hawks did as they pleased in the first half. Young set the tone early with a great goal on the run from 50 metres in the opening term and then as the Hawks took control in the second term he had 10 possessions for the quarter in totalling 16 to half-time alone. And while the sting went out of the game after half-time, Young added another goal in the third term and continued to make a big impression with his pace and long kicking in what was a very even performance from the Hawks.

It was impossible to split two contrasting, team-lifting goals from Jarryd Roughead and Shane Crawford late in the second term for the honour of the best goal of the game but one thing was for sure, both goals bought the Hawks crowd to their feet and helped bury the Saints during the Hawks' second-term onslaught. The margin was already 35 points when Roughead somehow roved a hit-out from a boundary throw-in and quick as a flash booted a superb goal over his shoulder at the 25 minute mark. Then just two minutes later Crawford kicked a magnificent goal on the run from 35 metres out on the boundary line, right in front of a large contingent of adoring Hawks fans to give his team an eight goal lead going into half-time.
Classic Grab: It might not have been the kind of 'speccy' so associated with finals footy at the MCG but Chance Bateman's desperate, diving grab right on the outer win midway through the second term summed up the Hawks' commitment in the first half. And Bateman's great effort then led to a goal to Michael Osborne, one of seven the Hawks kicked during their second quarter onslaught.
Turning Point: The Hawks second quarter was simply magnificent and sent an ominous warning to Geelong next week that the Cats are far from certainties to win back-to-back flags despite having lost just one game all season. After leading by 13 points at quarter-time, the Hawks soon put the game beyond
