Holland to miss Anzac clash

Holland to miss Anzac clash

23/04/2008 6:00 PM

Collingwood will be without skipper Scott Burns and Brodie Holland for Friday's Anzac Day clash against Essendon at the MCG as Holland's recent injury curse struck again.

Holland is out with an injured ankle having lasted just one match in his comeback from a serious Achilles injury, which restricted him to just seven appearances last year.

The Magpie tagger returned against the Kangaroos last week in what was his first match since round 13, 2007 but had little impact in managing just 12 possessions.

Burns meanwhile is still waiting to play his 250th AFL game after being ruled out for a third successive week due a calf problem.

However key trio Anthony Rocca, Dane Swan and Alan Didak, who all failed to train on Tuesday, were all named for the biggest match on the AFL's home and away calendar.

The Magpies regained Nick Maxwell from suspension while also including Ryan Cook for just his fourth senior game as young forward Ben Reid (quad) was ruled out along with Holland.

Essendon made just one change with key forward Courtney Johns coming in for his first game for the season, as the Bombers look to give skipper Mattthew Lloyd some much-needed support in attack in the continued absence of Scott Lucas, with Nathan Lovett-Murray dropped.

Reigning premier Geelong has surprisingly made three changes for the other Anzac Day game in Perth against Fremantle at Subiaco on Friday night.

Despite winning 24 of its past 25 matches the Cats dropped young ruckman Trent West, midfielder Brent Prismall and premiership defender Max Rooke.

Into the side comes key defender Harry Taylor while forward Ryan Gamble returns from suspension and 21-year-old Shane Mumford has been promoted off the rookie list to make his AFL debut.

Mumford stands 200cm and weighs 102kg and got his opportunity on the Cats' list after playing six games as a top-up player in the club's VFL side in 2007.

The struggling Dockers, who have won just one of their first five matches, dropped veteran Matthew Carr as well as Scott Thornton while Des Headland returns from injury and forward Ryan Murphy comes in for only his second game of the season in what will be Fremantle captain Matthew Pavlich's 150th consecutive appearance.
