Kosi out with hammy

Kosi out with hammy

St Kilda's soft tissue curse has struck again with Justin Koschitzke set to miss Saturday night's clash against Richmond with a hamstring injury sustained late in Sunday's famous victory over West Coast at Subiaco.

Koschitzke's setback was revealed on Tuesday by coach Ross Lyon, though Lyon declined to elaborate on the severity of the injury.

"He's got a hamstring injury and won’t play (against Richmond). I think that's enough information," a pithy Lyon told a media conference at Moorabbin.

According to the club's official injury list released later in the day, Koschitzke will miss the next two-to-three matches.

Koschitzke has endured a wretched run with injuries over the past couple of seasons including a fractured skull, knee ligament strain and torn quadriceps.

Now he can now add his name to a long and growing list of Saints including Robert Harvey, Sam Fisher, Jason Gram, Matthew Ferguson, Barry Brooks and Leigh Fisher, who have been sidelined by hamstrings in 2007.

Koschitzke's predicament throws the spotlight back on the club's management of soft tissue injuries which had been a significant issue under Lyon's predecessor, Grant Thomas.

"There's no witch hunt here. It's unfortunate, we'll put it on the table now and move on," Lyon said.

"It's a subject of interest. We want to put in practices that try and prevent this. It's not ideal but we're working towards trying to get better as a club."

Koschitzke was one of the Saints' heroes in Robert Harvey's 350th match last Sunday with four goals in a key forward role - a performance Lyon acknowledged as just about the 24-year-old's best for the year.

"The outside perception is that if you kick four, it's your best game I suppose, but all year he's competed really well and rucked really well," Lyon said.

"It was a positive performance, wasn't it?"

A more positive positive for the Saints, as far as the Tigers clash is concerned, is the expected return of Fraser Gehrig from a broken bone in his hand to fill the vacancy left by Koschitzke.

Lyon said he rated Gehrig as a 'very good chance' to play.
