Saturday night's AFL preliminary final between Geelong and Collingwood will be telecast live into Melbourne.

Channel 10 announced on Thursday that it had been granted permission by the AFL to show the game live with coverage to start from 7pm.

Ten's general manager of sport David White said the network is delighted with the result.

"This is a win for all AFL fans whether they are watching at the ground or at home," said White.

Time has all but run out, however, for Channel 7 to stage a live telecast of Friday night's clash between St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs.

Seven said earlier this week that prospects of a live telecast would depend on the speed of ticket sales.

The network's clear preference is to run its regular lead-in program, Better Homes and Gardens followed by a delayed telecast of the footy.
