North Melbourne ruckman Hamish McIntosh has emerged as the most surprising piece of trade bait on day one of the AFL's annual trade week on Monday.

Kangaroos coach Dean Laidley revealed a number of rival clubs had expressed an interest in the talented 24-year-old, who has played 57 games since debuting in 2005.

And surprisingly the Roos are prepared to let the agile 203cm big man go if the price is right just a year after he finished fourth in the club's best and fairest and narrowly missed All-Australian selection before enduring an injury-plagued 2008 season when a knee injury restricted him to just 14 games.

"Hamish McIntosh's name was mentioned today and even with Hamish we will sit down and if there is real interest there in Hamish we will have a look at it," Laidley said.

"We are open-minded about it and we will do what is best for the footy club."

Midfielder Daniel Harris and goalsneak Corey Jones were also mentioned on day one of trade week but Harris is the only player at North Melbourne that has requested a move to another club.

"There are no offers on the table for any of them," Laidley said of Harris, McIntosh and Jones.

"A lot of names were bought up today so we will wait and see what unfolds over the rest of the week."

"But I am not wishing there is any offers for any of them."

"We have contracted them all and we want them to stay and Daniel is the only player that has stated that he would like to leave although there has been interest also in Corey and Hamish."

"But if I was a betting man I would say most of them would still be at our footy club at the end of the week."

Meanwhile Western Bulldogs football operations manager James Fantasia said the Bulldogs were looking for a second-round draft pick as compensation for midfielder Farren Ray.

"We think that is being fair and realistic," he said of possible compensation for a player that was taken as high as pick four in the 2003 national draft.

But Fantasia said if a club did not come up with a suitable deal, the Dogs would keep the 22-year-old who remains under contract at the Whitten Oval.

"He is a required player although he has indicated he would like to try this week to see if there is another club (for him) but we have re-affirmed to his manager as late as today that would like him to be with us next year and we will still progress that way," Fantasia said.
