Port Adelaide's form forward Daniel Motlop believes a strong mental approach, rather than heat and humidity conditioning, is the key to performing well at TIO Stadium in Darwin.
Motlop said the Power won't be following the Western Bulldogs' lead by heading into heat rooms as preparation for their Round 14 clash.
Instead the 26-year-old said the team would focus on improving its game and working hard when Darwin's weather takes its toll.
“It's just another game. I suppose it's a mental toughness thing pushing through the heat, and that will probably come into play this week," he said.
But Motlop wasn't critical of the Bulldogs' efforts to prepare for the clash.
"Whatever works for them. If they win I suppose it would have worked, but if they don’t then it doesn't," he said.
Motlop, who is Port's leading goal kicker this season, said onball dominance was another more pressing issue the Power needed to address.
The Power's midfielders put in a strong performance against the Tigers last week but weren't as effective with their clearances.
"A lot of teams have put pressure on our midfield and that sort of stuff. Hopefully the midfield can string it together this week because the Western Bulldogs have a real good midfield," he said.
Port is out of finals contention but is still desperate for a win after suffering three losses in a row. Motlop said the team wanted to go into the second week of the split round with some confidence behind them.
And he said his own good form, which has seen him kick 39 goals this season, is hard to appreciate when the team is struggling.
"You'd sort of rather kick one goal a game and be winning. When the team is down and you kick a few goals it's not as good," he said.
"A win solves all of the negativity. It would be nice to get a win before the break because two weeks after a loss is a long time in footy."
Motlop is a Darwin boy and will feel more comfortable than most heading north this Saturday. The former Kangaroo says he has no problems with the warmer weather.
"It's nice up there this time of the year. It's the dry season. I suppose not coming from there you would feel it a bit, but personally I enjoy it," he said.
And he's expecting good support from relatives keen to see him in action.
"Exciting week for me and for my family. I have asked for 10 tickets and I've asked everyone else in the team to get 10 for me as well," he said.
