Dockers captain Matthew Pavlich has defended Mark Harvey, saying the coach's half-time outburst during Fremantle's 22-point loss to Brisbane was justified.
Harvey was reportedly unaware that a camera had been placed in Fremantle's rooms at the Gabba for Sunday's clash and said he was disappointed the half-time address had been broadcast.
But Pavlich said Harvey was merely getting his point across after the Dockers conceded six goals to one during the second term, effectively setting up the loss as Fremantle outscored Brisbane in all the other quarters.
"It probably just looked good for the cameras to be honest, more than anything," said Pavlich on Monday.
"He was just getting his point across that we hadn't used the ball well and taken the most of our opportunities."
"As I said, those 'money kicks' or those kicks going inside 50, the finesse wasn't there in the last 10, 15 minutes of that second quarter."
"Brisbane, admittedly, weren't right up to scratch either, but they were still able to make the most of their opportunities and finish off just a bit better than us."
"I think we were four points down with 10 minutes to go (during the second quarter) and it was very much an arm wrestle at that stage, and they were just able to get two or three goals which we couldn't that really hurt us."
"I thought he (Harvey) was justifiable in his actions and I think it showed that we actually came out and played quite well for the rest of the game," said Pavlich.
Pavlich also said Harvey and the team's leadership group had a responsibility to be honest while also trying to keep morale high during the club's eight-game losing streak.
"It's a very fine balance. At this stage of the season given the win/loss record, you'd be forgiven to make sure that it is positive and it is light around the place but at the same time, you've got to make sure that the hard message is being sent, that this wasn't acceptable, this is acceptable."
"So it is a fine balance and hopefully we're getting that right. and I think we are 'cause, as I've said, the competitiveness and the place itself, is still structurally very sound, no one's splintering, everyone's together (and) in it together."
Pavich also laughed off comments about his errant goal kicking during several last quarters, which may have cost Fremantle wins this season.
"If I tried to hit the post as many times as I have this year, I can absolutely tell you I wouldn't be able to do so. There must be a magnet in the ball in the last quarter that just veers into that post."
"There's a quote that someone actually threw me during the week that 'failure cannot cope with perseverance'. And, I'm not one of those people that's big on quotes and cliches but it actually rang pretty true. If I keep on doing my practice and my preparation along with the other guys, then we'll get this thing right," he said.
