Pies fans arrested for bashing

Pies fans arrested for bashing

04/04/2009 8:13 PM

Three Collingwood fans have been arrested after allegedly bashing a Melbourne player's father after the match at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

Brad Jones, father of Demon midfielder Nathan, was left bloody and bruised and taken to hospital following the incident.

He has a suspected fractured cheekbone and broken nose.

Melbourne president Jim Stynes was disgusted by the attack and hopes that police will take the appropriate action on those responsible.

"Everyone must feel safe and secure and free to express their passion for the club they support," he said in a statement.

"One of the great things about the culture of AFL football is this type of behaviour is very rare."

"Irrespective of who you support - supporter violence is just not on."

As a proud and loyal supporter of the Mighty Magpie's, i sincerely feel appalled at the alledged actions of so-called Magpie supporter's and if proven to be correct, then rightly so the appropriate action should be dealt to those responsible for thier actions.

This kind of behavior is JUST NOT ON, this shouldn't happen in any sport. I hope those three fans get a life ban because they don't deserve to watch a single match of AFL!

This is simply not blowing off steam is differant to being basically brainless. Is this a case of younger hoons beating up an older guy over a football game. It's about time the politicians pushed for more respect for assault laws and the most severe penalties in all aspects leading to this type of behaviour. Or its heading the way that soon all of the elderly are going to unsafe and vunerable.

I believe that these kind of supporters are a dying breed, ban them for life. Collingwood is to great a team for the likes of people like that. They should be ashamed of themselves. Yianna

Well what a surprise, Collingwood again. Something must be done about this underperforming tragic club. Everytime it's Collingwood. They are a national disgrace.

I believe that these guys should recieve a life time ban from any Afl matches! You can't even go to watch a game of Football anymore with out this appauling behaviour! As for the bystanders that were all watching a helping hand wouldn't have gone astray! What is the world coming too!

As a long time Collingwood supporter and member now living in Queensland i am disgusted by this news. It is the small minority of idiots like these few that give our great club a bad name. I hope they are banned for life by the AFL and the police throw the book at them. Best wishes to the Jones family and i hope their are no long term health affects from this disgusting attack.
