Collingwood's search for a top-class ruckman appears to have ended with the deal to snare Swan Darren Jolly finally being done late on Wednesday night.
The Swans will gain Collingwood's first pick in the draft – No.14 – as well as pick 46 in return for Jolly, who wanted to return home to Melbourne for family reasons after five years in Sydney.
Sydney coach Paul Roos had been reluctant to part with the ruckman, who has established himself as one of the premier big men in the competition.
"We were looking to protect our footy club because Darren is a really good player, but given we were unable to agree on players (to be traded by Collingwood), I think we've done the best thing by the player and the club," Roos said.
Having secured West Coast's Mark Seaby earlier in the week, the Swans are keen to add a second ruckman to their list – with Geelong's Shane Mumford a key target.
"He's indicated to us that he'll come to the club and we obviously hope to complete a trade with the Geelong Football Club and we intend to work with them on Thursday and see what we can do," said Roos.
A member of Sydney's 2005 premiership side, Jolly currently holds the record of most hitouts per game - 53 against the Magpies this year - beating his previous record of 49.
Jolly, who turns 28 next month, also played 48 games for Melbourne after being taken at No.31 in the 2000 rookie draft.
The move intensifies speculation about Josh Fraser's position at the club, with youngster Cameron Wood a project player having been at the Pies for two years.
