Pies v Swans, snippets

TURNING POINT: Probably when the Swans got off the plane to arrive in Melbourne earlier in the week. Nothing went right for them all night. Skipper Brett Kirk even lost the toss at the start of the game. By the time the Swans had awoken from their slumber, the Pies had kicked four goals in the opening nine minutes and the game was over.
STAR MAN: Scott Pendlebury. This guy is on the verge of becoming a superstar. He oozes class, uses the ball well and has amazingly good awareness. Pendlebury found the Sherrin 28 times and won five clearances in a best on ground performance.
ABSOLUTE SHOCKER: Peter Everitt. Surely his career is over at the end of this season? Everitt won 19 hitouts, but could only collect six disposals and did little else around the ground. No future in him in our opinion.
WHAT A GOAL: Paul Medhurst’s effort in the second term from the boundary line got this gong. After taking a beautiful mark on a tight angle, Medhurst gave himself some room, before sliding a checkside through.
UNSUNG HERO: Harry O’Brien does his job week in week out and is one of the favourites of the Collingwood supporters. O’Brien was at his best once again against the Swans. He gave his side plenty of run out of the backline and set-up many forward forays.
