Port Adelaide could recall Brendon Lade, Michael Wilson and Showdown XXIV hard man Matt Thomas for its clash against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.
Lade and Wilson have been regaining form and fitness in the SANFL while Thomas, who knocked out Nathan Bassett with a spearing tackle in the teams' last clash, is a chance to play after recovering from an ankle injury.
By naming Lade and Wilson as likely inclusions, Port Adelaide has indicated that winning, rather than list development, has become a priority for this week at least.
Power coach Mark Williams, in a similar vein to defender Troy Chaplin, believes Showdown XXV is like a grand final for his players.
"Every game is worth four points but against our traditional rivals, it'll probably be our biggest crowd for the rest of the year so if you add those things together it makes it that sort of status," he said.
"But hopefully it's a different result to the grand final last year."
"To play in front of a big crowd in a high pressure game is important for the development of the young players."
One of the Power's driving motivations is to improve its declining Showdown record. At the end of 2003 they held a 10-4 advantage but since then the Crows have had the edge on their rivals.
"We as a club like to position ourselves as the team that has won the most of them and right now it's equal. We've been in that position since we have both been in the competition and right now it's 50/50 so we'd like to sneak our way ahead again," Williams said.
The last Showdown, back in Round 3, produced one of the most physical games of football seen this season.
Williams said he expected a match of similar intensity on Sunday.
"There's no doubt we'll be playing like that and I guarantee the Crows will be, they've got it on the line so it's going to be one of the great games," he said.
"Our blokes were pretty knocked around, sore and all that stuff too. So don't think it was just one-sided."
But he said his team would be playing to the rules.
"Last time there were no reports and never ever will I tell my players to go and get reported."
