Matthew Richardson could be pitted against two Port players – one in the Tigers' forward line and one in the midfield – if the Power go ahead with their pre-match plans for the clash at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.
Richardson has been in career-best form this season and the Power believe it will take a team effort to curtail his influence.
Assistant coach Matthew Primus said the Power had a number of strategies in place to beat him but would be unsure which one to implement until the game begins. However, he did say there could be some player swapping if Richardson starts to roam the field.
"Once he tries to head up the ground we'll have a couple of plans - whether we let him go or have someone to sit on him. Different teams have tried different tactics and it has worked and it hasn't worked; he's probably the key to how they play," he said.
A tantalising Richardson/Chad Cornes match-up still remains on the cards but this encounter would rely on the veteran Tiger playing in attack.
"If the match-ups are right, they go tall down there quite a few times and Chad finished off playing well down there last half, last week," Primus said.
Port Adelaide is also trying to establish a winning forward combination with Brett Ebert replacing the out of form Justin Westhoff.
Ebert, who has been on the sidelines since Round 10, will be feeling the weight of expectation with the Power kicking just 15 goals in the past fortnight.
But, while Ebert's return was a positive, Primus said it didn't significantly change the dynamic of Port's flagging attack.
"He's a proven goal kicker for us. He has similar attributes as Westy has, and obviously the height difference is a factor there, but that's about it."
Primus said the club hoped Westhoff could find some form in the SANFL and return to the seniors quickly.
"We are hoping he goes back there and kicks a few goals, he's definitely part of our big picture and his defensive stuff all year has been outstanding," he said.
Meanwhile the Power will persist with the aggressive approach they used against the Cats last Sunday.
Primus said the coaching panel had tried to maintain the team's 'hard edge' during the week.
"We've focussed that we actually want to keep that attack on the footy and the attack on the guy with the footy," he said.
"We didn't think it went over the top (against Geelong). We were very happy with our passion and we'd much rather a team play with that passion than not."
