Port Adelaide would consider recruiting past player Josh Carr if the Docker became available in 2009.
Carr, who left the Power after their grand final win in 2004, has yet to sign a new deal with his Western Australian side. The 28-year-old could prove the perfect inclusion to a Port squad that's been criticised for its lack of hardness this year.
Williams said he'd 'entertain the thought' of staging a prodigal son scenario.
"He was an exceptional player for us, a premiership player, a great leader for us and we'll seriously talk about Josh and if he's ringing me up wanting to come back I'll certainly see what we can do," Williams said.
"I like the way he plays, I like what he was at our club, if that's something from yesterday maybe it is and we'll consider that. But I can honestly say we've never talked about him as a collective group once so that's where it is."
The Power coach's possible reunion with Carr would be a short one if the Gold Coast was to woo him north in 2011.
Williams said he wouldn't rule out a role with the new club.
"I suppose I spent some time up on the Gold Coast and I'm a very keen surfer so they put those things together and they'd probably get me there, but look there hasn't been any discussion about that and I'll be coaching at Port Adelaide next year," he said laughing.
Port Adelaide's immediate focus is on its upcoming game against North Melbourne this Saturday. Chad Cornes, who has missed the last two games with knee and shoulder injuries, could be available for the clash.
Williams said there was 'no thought at the moment' of resting the star player for the rest of the season despite the team's focus on development
"Chad is certainly in need of some sort of operation, but exactly what time it (occurs, I'm not sure)," Williams said.
"And also you have to probably look forward to how long it takes in his recuperation and work back from that time and make sure he's ready for pre-season."
"Both his shoulder and his knee need operations, both minor things but they'll both take four or five weeks."
"The reason is if it takes six or eight weeks to get over it and then you've got a few weeks between the season then your pre-season starts there's no real benefit for him, so it's really a little to
