Carlton coach Brett Ratten has aimed a stinging bitch slap at his Port Adelaide counterpart, branding Mark Williams a 'bad loser' over his put-downs of the Blues in the lead-up to and after last Sunday's clash at AAMI Stadium.
Williams' digs at Carlton started mid-week and his mood darkened after the Blues came from an unwinnable position at three-quarter time on Sunday to swamp the Power with a seven-goal-to-nil final term to get up by 12 points.
"They have got three of the best top-10 players in the AFL playing for them and then with their draft picks over the last five or so years, they have hoarded first-round draft picks," Williams said.
"With their resources, (president) Dick Pratt and all the money he has got and the things they can do … Carlton stop at nothing to try to achieve (success) - they have always had what they want."
Clearly still stung by Williams' attack three days after the match, Ratten fired back with both barrels.
"Personally, I didn’t think Mark would be such a bad loser, but that's the way it goes," he said at Princes Park.
"He doesn't have to (apologise), that's his point of view and that's the way he sees it but he talks about first round draft picks and I thought every team got a first round draft pick."
Asked what prompted Williams to attack Carlton, Ratten replied: "Maybe it might be to deflect what he's got going on over there."
"It's good that people are starting to get back into us and rib us and things like that but we’re just worrying about what we have to do this week."
The niggle between Ratten and Williams has set the scene for a fascinating return clash between Carlton and Port in Round 19 at Telstra Dome.
While Ratten was able to have his say on Wednesday, he was disappointed to be robbed of the last word on Sunday by Port Adelaide supporters who made a quick exit from AAMI Stadium.
"I think at three-quarter time when I walked down I copped a few handy sprays there, so I was looking for them - where are you now," he said.
