Speculation mounts over Miller

Speculation mounts over Miller

26/07/2008 8:35 PM

Richmond president Gary March refused to confirm or deny on Saturday night that the Tigers' powerful director of football Greg Miller had been axed.

Miller, who was instrumental in securing Terry Wallace as coach in 2005 and who only recently stood down from the board after being elected as part of the ticket of former president Clinton Casey, has reportedly been told he is no longer required at Punt Road following a club review.

The former powerbroker did not attend the Tigers' clash with Brisbane on Saturday night and it is believed the only reason he has not been officially sacked is because the club has not been able to get hold of him after Miller was uncontactable after learning of his impending fate

March told the official president's dinner prior to Saturday night's clash against Brisbane that the Tigers were conducting "an ongoing review" of the club's operations."

"'Obviously today there has been a fair bit of speculation about the Richmond Football Club and speculation about a review," he said.

"One thing I can tell you is that review process started when I first became president (March succeeded Casey at the end of 2005) and has been an ongoing review process since."

"Like any good organisation you review your organisation, you look how you can improve that organisation and last year that resulted in us adding significant resources to our football department in Craig Cameron and Craig McRae in development areas."

"'That review process has been ongoing, it is still ongoing and we will be looking to further enhance our football department."

March said the club would have more to say about its review process over the next couple of weeks but "that's all I am going to say on the matter at the moment."

Miller's influence at Punt Road has been in decline in recent times and not only he has recently stood down from the board but he also lost responsibility for recruiting, which was instead handed to former player Francis Jackson while the recent addition of former Melbourne recruiting manager Craig Cameron as the Tigers' list and strategy manager further diluted Miller's responsibilities.
