and Western Australia) like Richo (who is from Tasmania) the chance to play," he said.
Now Weightman is just hoping the Victorian public will get behind Saturday night's match in the way they did in what he rates his most memorable state game - against South Australia at the MCG in 1989.
Just like now, there had not been a state game played in Melbourne for nine years leading into that match - although unlike today there had been regular state matches in the years in between with Victoria travelling to Perth and Adelaide on a yearly basis to play South Australia and Western Australia.
"I played nearly 20 state games and it was the only one I ever played in Melbourne," Weightman said in recalling that famous 1989 match.
"No-one was sure how many people were going to go to the match and when we ran down the race we just couldn't believe it and there were more than 90,000 there."
That was the day the Vics, who had lost their past three matches to South Australia, teamed two of the game's greatest ever forwards in Tony Lockett and Jason Dunstall in attack and annihilated the Croweaters by 86 points to reclaim the mantle as Australia's top football state.
And Weightman has no doubt Saturday night's game will be equally exciting considering Victoria will field Brendan Fevola, Daniel Bradshaw, Jarryd Roughead and Brown in attack while the Dream Team's forward line will be equally as exciting with Lance Franklin, Matthew Pavlich and Richardson all expected to line-up.
Weightman has no doubt both forward lines will put on the kind of show that Lockett and Dunstall put on in 1989.
"That's the thing about state footy, you gel together quickly (as a team) because everyone is such a good player," he said.
"And this game will be even more exciting in a lot of ways because you have the best 50 players playing rather than just say Victorian and South Australian players."
"You wouldn't miss it for quids."
