Collingwood midfielder Dane Swan capped off an outstanding 2009 season by winning the EW Copeland Trophy for a second straight year at the Magpies' best and fairest awards on Friday night.

Only 12 players in the club's history have won the award back-to-back with Swan joining the likes of club legends Bob Rose, Murray Weideman, Len Thompson and Nathan Buckley.

Swan played all 25 matches, averaging over 30 disposals a game, and polled votes in 17 of them to win with 57 votes from captain and fellow All Australian Nick Maxwell (48 votes).

Maxwell enjoyed his best season with the club, polling in 18 of his 23 matches, to achieve his highest ever finish.

Heath Shaw stormed home to finish in third place, while Harry O'Brien and Alan Didak rounded out the top five.

In other awards, 19-year-old midfielder Dayne Beams won the best first-year player award and John Anthony took home the leading goal kicker award.
