Fremantle coach Mark Harvey denies his Dockers are the worst travellers in the competition despite putting in another tame performance against Geelong at Skilled Stadium on Saturday.
The match was as good as over by half-time when the Cats enjoyed a 43-point lead and the eventual 40-point loss was Fremantle's 19th defeat from its past 23 trips on the road.
However, Harvey said there were reasons for the Dockers' inability to put up a genuine fight beyond the surroundings of Subiaco Oval.
"Not everyone plays on the road as much as we do," he said.
"We've got a young side and we're still evolving. You just keep asking the negative questions and I'll keep responding to them in the way that I want it to."
"We have been in transition and building."
"Some guys haven't played on this ground. It's not as if we're mature bodies and we've had experience of playing on these venues. There is a little bit of uncertainty when you're on the road because of that and people have got to understand that."
"Naturally we'd like to be winning more (on the road) and if we're going to evolve we need to."
Harvey believes Fremantle is on the verge of turning around its woeful away form.
"Yeah I think so. The more experience the younger group gets, the better off you'd like to think you are as time moves on," he said.
"We were poor in the contested situation today. That doesn't help things like stoppage outcomes and possession in tight."
Meanwhile, Harvey has more headaches to worry about other than just his side's performances on the road, namely the retention of star midfielder Paul Hasleby.
Hasleby, 28, has returned from a knee reconstruction this year to be one of Fremantle's best players.
He has played every game and averaged 24 touches but the club has only offered him a one-year deal and Harvey was far from confident of keeping the 2000 Rising Star on the Dockers' books next year.
"It's been going for a couple of weeks now. We'll see how we go," he said of Hasleby's contractual negotiations.
"The ball's in Paul's court ... Paul and his management need to make a decision.”
