Australian Team Profile
Australia has enjoyed a rich history in the sport of equestrian, collecting 10 medals, including six golds, since winning its first in 1960.
Australia has yet to win a medal in the jumping or dressage disciplines, with all 10 medals coming in eventing.
Andrew Hoy has been the dominant figure in equestrian for a number of Olympics, but he will not be part of this year's team, with the team featuring 11 debutants. Only Kristy Oatley has previous Olympic experience.
Married couple Clayton and Lucinda Fredericks, Sonja Johnson, Megan Jones and Shane Rose makes up the eventing team. All riders will compete as individuals and as a team.
Clayton carries good form into the Games and is a strong chance to medal. He won in Chatsworth earlier this year, and he also won an individual silver and team bronze medal at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Germany.
Edwina Alexander, Laurie Lever, Peter McMahon and Matthew Williams have all been selected on the jumping team. They will also compete as a team and individually.
Alexander is Australia's best chance at a medal after finishing fourth at the 2006 World Equestrian Games, and in doing so she became the first Australian to make the individual final at a Jumping World Championships.
In the dressage discipline Olympic debutants Hayley Beresford and Heath Ryan join Sydney Olympian Oatley as Australia's three competitors.
Oatley finished ninth in the individual dressage in 2000, while the team finished sixth. The inexperienced team will be relying on her to guide them to another strong finish.
Australia's most recent medals in the sport came in 2000 when Hoy won individual silver and led the team to gold in the eventing discipline.
